Brentwood Borough: Buying or Selling a Home (online application)
What happens during the test
- The plumber puts dye into the stormwater drains to confirm that roof drains, sump pumps and foundation drains do not run into the sanitary sewer.
- A camera goes through the whole sewer lateral, the pipe from the building to the public sewer, to look for defects and illegal connections.
- The dye test and the camera video go to the Borough at [email protected] (USB drive preferred, or Google Drive, MP4 or Dropbox).
If the test fails
The Borough won't issue certificates until illegal connections are removed and any lateral defect is repaired, followed by a new inspection. If repairs are still pending at closing, a temporary sewer lateral certification is possible with a written repair quote, an escrow deposit equal to the repair cost and a signed escrow agreement. Repairs and the follow-up inspection must be done within 21 days of the transfer. Call the Borough at 412-884-1500.
