West Mifflin Sanitary Sewer & Stormwater Authority: Dye Tests
What happens during the test
- The plumber runs dye through the downspouts, driveway drains and other area drains.
- It is a two-part test: confirm the downspouts are not connected to the sanitary sewer, and watch the sewer manhole to see where the dye goes.
If the test fails
No compliance certificate is issued until the bad connections are removed and a licensed plumber certifies the fix. If repairs would take too long, the Borough may issue temporary evidence of compliance with a signed plumber contract and cash security for the full contract amount. Call the sewer authority at 412-466-6070 to ask.
